Requirements
- Languages: Must be proficient in English.
- Education: Completion of a two-year Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) diploma from a community college.
- Experience: At least six months of related experience, preferably in geriatric care or long-term care settings.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Candidates must be reliable, adaptable, patient, discreet, and flexible.
- Must hold current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Should have basic knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Regulated Health Professions Act, Nursing Act, and Health Care Consent Act.
- Familiarity with infection control practices, medication administration, and nursing documentation standards is essential.
- Must possess knowledge of verbal and non-verbal communication, patient transfer techniques, and long-term care principles.
- Proficiency with computer applications such as Word and Outlook is required.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety regulations, confidentiality, and resident privacy is expected.
- Candidates should be able to organize tasks efficiently, handle change, and work well under pressure.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary, along with respect for resident choice, diversity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver nursing and personal care to residents in a municipal long-term care facility, prioritizing their safety and engagement.
- Participate in planning, managing, and implementing nursing and personal care programs and services.
- Administer medications, perform nursing procedures, and ensure resident safety using appropriate skills and judgment.
- Observe and report any changes in residents’ physical or mental conditions.
- Coordinate care activities of Unregulated Health Care Providers to promote high-quality resident care.
- Effectively manage and prioritize workload.
